Dawn Hernandez
Hi, I am Dawn Hernandez, a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) at Lamar Elementary. I have had many experiences that have led me to where I am today. First and foremost I am the mother of two special needs adult men. I grew up coping with dyslexia, which lead me to becoming a teacher for 15 years for grades 1st-8th, specializing in reading. I started down my path to becoming an SLP after my sons’ speech therapist suggested that I would make a good SLP. I have been doing speech therapy for 12 years, first as a speech therapy assistant and then as an SLP. I have worked in a clinic with children and adults, in home health, in schools, teletherapy/telehealth, and as a tutor addressing reading (dyslexia), writing, spelling, and study skills for ages 6-22. I have been on many sides of the table and believe it makes me a better SLP.
