Library Classes

Students attend library class weekly.  Many of our young readers and soon-to-be readers will discover new titles that will become childhood favorites.

Pre-K gets a weekly read aloud and get to check out books on their library day. While Kindergarten and First Grade rotate with read aloud's/check outs and computer science classes every other week. During computer science class students are learning coding skills in the simplest forms while getting to work with robots and other fun games.

Library lessons highlight a variety of topics from math, science, library skills, and even adventures.  Our students are eager to discover the world around them.  Ask your child to share what they learned, or where they traveled, in the library this week!

Library Policy

Students will no longer have to have a permission form to check out books from the library. Please note that if you do not want your child bringing a library book home you may contact your child's teacher or me to arrange for that.

If books are lost or damaged a form with the amount of the book will be sent home with your child. If you have any questions about the missing or damaged book please call the school and leave me a message or send me an email and I will get back with you as soon as possible. If the book is found at a later date, in good condition, the amount paid will be refunded.

Lamar's Book Care Rules

Parents we are working hard here at Lamar to teach our student's about responsibility and the importance of taking care of their library books. The following is what I tell students in the library when they get to check out books. Thanks for your help with this!

  1. No eating or drinking around your library book.
  2. Make sure you have clean hands before reading.
  3. Use a bookmark or sheet of paper to hold your place.
  4. Turn the pages slowly from the corners.
  5. Send damaged books to the library for repairs. Please do not try and tape up or fix on your own. I have extra special tape to fix rips in the library.
  6. Never color or write in a library book.
  7. Keep your library book in your backpack when you are not reading it.
  8. Return you book on time. Students return books in the provided cart in their classroom the day before their library class.
